Dental Crowns and Bridges
Your Solution for Weak, Damaged, or Misshapen Teeth
If you’ve ever had a weak, damaged, or misshapen tooth, your dentist has probably recommended a dental crown or dental bridge at one point or another. But all too often, patients are unclear as to why they need dental crowns and bridges, causing them to delay treatment.
At James Bieneman, DDS, we thoroughly discuss all treatments with patients prior to determining what the best treatment is and how to proceed. By doing so, we ensure that you’re involved in the decision-making process and comfortable with our assessment and recommendations before providing dental crowns or bridges.
What are Crowns and Bridges?
Sometimes, dental terms can make it difficult to understand your treatment and at our dental practice, we strive to clearly explain your options to help you make the right decision.
A crown, or cap, is a restorative structure placed on weak, damaged, or misshapen teeth to protect them against further damage. Crowns are often made of porcelain or metal, each of which comes with its advantages and disadvantages, all of which Dr. Bieneman will explain.
Bridges, like crowns, protect teeth from damage but are used to fill in a gap between two teeth. A bridge is 3 or more crowns made as one piece that is cemented in your mouth. This means that bridges essentially bridge the gap between teeth regardless of whether only one is missing or multiple teeth are missing.
Are Dental Bridges and Crowns Noticeable?
All dental crowns and bridges are created to match the color, height, texture, and appearance of your teeth. This makes them a natural solution to replace diminishing or weak teeth that only you will know about.
The best part about this solution is that through proper care, oral hygiene, and dental visits, you can prolong the lifespan of your dental crowns and bridges.
